Senior Manager, Legal
Core Responsibilities:
The Candidate, will support the Head of Legal to handle all legal work of the Bank and is required to undertake the work required at the best standards applicable to banks.
The Candidate supports the Head of Legal in advising the Executive management of the Bank on legal issues of significant importance to the Bank’s businesses and operations and represents the Bank in legal proceedings or supervises such representation.
The Candidate shall also analyze legal and regulatory issues affecting the Bank’s operations and develops institutional policies in respect thereof.
The Candidate should attend to all Legal requirements of the Bank, within the Sultanate of Oman and any other jurisdiction that the Bank may be conducting business in.
Analyze, review, draft, comment and interpret various legal agreements and non-legal Instruments, for and on behalf of the Bank.
Advise on and implement legal processes and procedures to be undertaken by all departments within the Bank.
Maintain the legal office and appropriate filing.
Identify and address any Legal Issues if and when they present themselves in the course of the Bank’s corporate and commercial activities.
Upon the directions of the Head of Legal, instructs external Legal Counsels and supervise their work to advise and/or act of behalf of the Bank on any given Legal matter as well as following up with regards to the same.
Assists in the revision and amendment of the Bank’s policies & procedures.
Liaise with ministries, courts and members of the legal profession on all matters related to the Bank’s legal affairs and to ensure its proper handling.
Ensure in coordination with the Head of Legal that the Bank maintains and adheres to legal, corporate and commercial policies & procedures to meet present and future requirements of the Bank’s business.
Review and update the Head of Legal on all related laws and regulations, and their impact on the Bank.
Advise, consult and coordinate issues and problematic financing referred for initiation of legal action.
Help in translating of all circulars/Laws/regulations/legal opinions/ Newspaper/articles affecting the Bank into action plan(s).
Qualification:
Bachelor Degree in Legal/Business Law
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years PQE within the Banking, corporate and Financial sectors.
Proven ability and experience in attracting, leading and developing highly qualified professionals
Established experience in respect of Financing concepts and practices.
Negotiation competency is best demonstrated by having successfully handled complex negotiations, be it in a bank or as a lawyer in a law firm.
Skills:
Excellent English language, Arabic is a plus.
Expertise in company and banking law locally and internationally is a must.
Keen interest in business, solutions-oriented combined with an effective working style
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with people externally and internally.
Listening skills are extremely important, with an eye for detail.
Creative mind and approach, solution-oriented, thought provoking and capable of thinking “outside the box”.
Self-motivated and able to take on decisions independently, and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to handle workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Has the ability to review commercial bank agreements.
The ability to review letters of credit and bank guarantees.
Understanding Islamic banking products is an added advantage
